Starbuck, MB – After a one year hiatus, The Salvation Army Supreme Steel Golf Classic returned for its seventh with spectacular success.  Eighty-six golfers teed off with an 8 am shotgun start at Bridges Golf Course located in Starbuck, MB.

“We love the early morning start,” said one golfer, “It’s a brilliant idea!  We get to be on the course at the beginning of a gorgeous day, have a few laughs, meet new people and support The Salvation Army in its mission to give hope and restore dignity to our community. What a way to start your day!”

This year The Salvation Army was pleased to welcome Supreme Steel as the Tournament Sponsor.

“This year marks the 40th anniversary of Supreme Steel Ltd. and it was appropriate that we choose to involve the Salvation Army in celebrating our anniversary,” explains Sally Leder, owner of Supreme Steel, “The Salvation Army believes that human dignity is a fundamental right for all and that people deserve a chance for a better life. This is why we lend support to this great organization, so they can continue the great work they do.”

Along with the great golf played at Bridges Golf Course, tournament participants also had opportunity to directly affect the programs and services of The Salvation Army with their support.  Professional Auctioneer, Les Kletke, entertained golfers during a fantastic lunch of BBQ pulled pork, vegetables, salad and rice.  Items available for bidding included outfitting a child with supplies for the school year, providing the necessities to families recovering from the effects of emergency crisis and disaster as well as preparing people with re-entering the work force.

As part of the tournament, there were a number of mini games for the golfers to compete in as well as three hole-in-one competitions which included a $10K prize.  Though no one won any of the hole-in-one competitions, golfers did enjoy the opportunity to beat Divisional Commander Major Wayne Bungay in a long drive contest.

“The tournament was a wonderful day of food, fun and fellowship.  We could not have pulled off such a successful event without the support of our golfers and sponsors,” stated Tsungai Muvingi, Tournament Coordinator, “I especially enjoyed meeting the people and organizations that work alongside us in giving hope and restoring dignity to our community.  Thank you!”

After expenses, the 7th Annual Salvation Army Golf Classic raised over $40K to support the programs and services offered in Manitoba.

Already The Salvation Army is looking forward to the 8th Annual Salvation Army Golf Classic taking place at Bridges Golf Course on Thursday, August 1, 2013.  Mark your calendar.  You will not want to miss this great event!
