Maritime Thrift Stores Send Kids to Camp

Heading off to summer camp is an exciting time of the year. However, the reality is that many cannot afford such a luxury without your assistance.

On Tuesday, July 10, representatives from The Salvation Army Thrift Stores of Nova Scotia were at Scotian Glen to present a cheque for $16,092.48 to help send children to camp. The cheque was presented to Major Wanda Vincent, Divisional Youth Secretary, at the camp’s dining hall in front of a hungry and excited crowd of Halifax area children.

Barb Warren, District Manager for Thrift Stores in Nova Scotia, challenged her staff to exceed last years total of $8,465.35. They accepted that challenge and passed with flying colours. Funds were raised through barbecues, raffles and simply informing customers where the money was going.

Scotian Glen Camp is located in scenic Thorburn, NS, and hosts over 600 campers each summer. This year’s donation helped send over 71 children to camp that would otherwise not be able to attend
