In 2011, Canadians stuffed $21 million into the Army’s bubbles and buckets, continuing to make it one of the nation’s oldest, but most successful, forms of philanthropy.

Kettle-giving continues to be positive even in an era when The Salvation Army and other charities across the country are offering more donor options by emphasizing online giving through programs like fillthekettle.com.

While the first time a kettle was used in Canada was in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1906, it appears that the Army’s on-the-street, drop-in-the pot donation bucket continues to be the organizations most popular form of donating.
