In order to determine eligibility for Christmas Assistance with The Salvation Army in the HRM, we require proof of ALL income for ALL adults in the household (including any adult Children living with you).
To qualify for Christmas assistance with The Salvation Army in the HRM, you must reside in a low-income household. The maximum annual income is as follows:
- 1 person household $29,000
- 2 to 4 person in household $47,703
- 5 or more persons in household $67,937
Adults in household (proof of income options)
- Proof of Income (2023 Tax Assessment with line 1500) for every adult in the household
- Proof of 2024 student enrollment
- Proof of recent landing documents for all new Canadians (under 1 year)
- Current Income Support for every adult in household
To apply for Christmas Gifts for children – child proof needed:
- Child Tax Benefit for all children under 18 years of age (CRA Screen Shot)
- Proof of Custody for all children – CRA screenshot of custody will only be accepted
Each family that completes the application with proof of income and receives confirmation of approval will receive a link by the end of November to book their own appointment.
Each household approved will be given a grocery gift card and invited to the 2024 Santa’s Workshop to choose gifts for their children.
If you wish to opt out of providing income information for all household members including Child tax benefit – you will be offered a foodbank appointment on a designated day at our Gottingen Street location.
Only the parent/guardian who has the child(ren) listed under their CRA account can receive gift support. Court orders and custody paperwork will not be accepted. Clients are always welcome to register at other organizations if they are unable to provide the necessary documents.
