It’s estimated that 1.6 billion cups of coffee are enjoyed around the world each day, and The Salvation Army in Woodstock, NB, can account for at least 40 during their monthly Coffee House.

On the second Friday of the month, the community gathers at Woodstock Community Church for an evening of fellowship, music, food and – of course – coffee.

“The monthly Coffee Houses have been happening here for a number of years,” explained Major Laverne Fudge, Corps Officer. “We’ve got something of a ‘house band’ set up here now, but the floor is open to local musicians, singers and groups who’d like to share their talent, too.”

Major Fudge describes the evenings as a lot of fun, as folks come together to connect and socialize over hot cups of Joe and a snack while listening to the music of that evening’s performer(s).

Admission is by free-will donation with the funds raised supporting a number of programs at the Church, including a new youth program Major Fudge is excited to get up and running.

“We have a sign at the door that tells everyone where their donation will be going,” he explained. “We haven’t had a youth program in a while, so we often use the funds from our Coffee Houses to help offset the costs of getting KidsConnect off the ground.”

Most Coffee Houses bring in about 30-40 people, but Mjr. Fudge says as many as 60 have come out over the past couple of months.

“Its going well and people really seem to enjoy them,” he said. “We’re not here for the numbers, we’re here for a good time and some fellowship with our friends and neighbours.”

The next Coffee House at Woodstock Community Church takes place on Friday, March 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Major Laverne Fudge at (506) 382-8276.
