The Salvation Army in Winnipeg is proud to officially announce another successful Toy Mountain campaign, as the organization exceeded their goal in 2016 by roughly 2,000 toys.

The campaign officially kicked off on October 29 with a toy drive at Investors Group Field during the final Winnipeg Blue Bombers home game of the season. After that, donations of new and unwrapped toys were being accepted all across the city at any Scotiabank location, various Salvation Army locations, and all police and fire stations. The campaign peaked over the weekend of December 2-3, as The Salvation Army set up in the middle of CF Polo Park mall and collected roughly 8,500 toys to build an actual Toy Mountain.

On December 1, The Salvation Army announced it was raising its goal from 15,000 to 17,000 toys, as it became apparent that a large number of families new to Canada had increased the need by more than 1,500 children.

Between toy donations and cash donations used to purchased toys, The Salvation Army has collected more than 19,000 toys. As of December 19, 10,412 children have been provided for, with 2,288 more children expected to receive donations before Christmas. This year’s total of 12,700 children helped is up from 2015’s total of 11,589 children.

The Salvation Army extends its utmost appreciation and gratitude to every donor who helped make this year’s Toy Mountain a huge success, as well as its many partners: Scotiabank, CTV, 99.9 BOB FM, 103.1
Virgin Radio, TSN 1290, Winnipeg Police Service, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, CF Polo Park, and the United Firefighters of Winnipeg.
