Angels In The Night
In the dark of the Calgary night on December 8, thirty-five Angels in the Night volunteers form a line from the delivery truck in the back alley to the sorting room at the Centre of Hope. They pass socks, work boots, gloves, underwear, and work pants down the line until the truck is empty. The Angels are employees and friends of Invis and Mortgage Intelligence and this is their 13th year of helping homeless shelters in several cities across Canada.
“We do fundraising throughout the year,” said Gary Siegle, VP, Prairies and organizer of the Calgary event. “We are fortunate to have an active volunteer group and strong support from our business partners. We raised $19,000 this year and we have a great partner in Army & Navy who helps us stretch every one of those dollars to maximize what we can provide to shelters.”
“Angels in the Night is close to our hearts,” added Mr. Siegle. “We get to spend our days helping clients get into homes but we don’t want to forget those who are struggling and don’t have a home. Our hope is that a helping hand will contribute to them one day having a place to call their own.”
“We are grateful to the Angels,” said Karen Livick, Executive Director of The Salvation Army’s Community Services Calgary. “These very practical items that many of us take for granted provide warmth and comfort to our shelter clients and equip them to work in outdoor positions or jobs that require safety gear.”
