Since 2007, TELUS has taken the initiative to help provide the comfort of warm “Happy Feet” to the homeless with their Socks for SOX campaign – right across the country! All Canadians know the importance of warm, dry feet, and the homeless are more likely to go without this basic necessity.

“We wanted to select a charity that served homeless people in different communities across Canada. The Salvation Army has a very good reputation in serving people in need and they have a presence in most/every province,” says Dale Briske, TELUS’ Director of Finance.

“The Salvation Army is so grateful for being the recipient of these socks. It’s amazing how something as simple as socks can make such a difference when you’re homeless,” says David Dickinson, Executive Director of Community & Family Services in Edmonton. “The gift came just in time as there were only about a dozen socks left at the end of the day.”

The inspiration behind the Socks for SOX campaign was created by the TELUS financial team. They work diligently each year to complete their SOX certifications. TELUS celebrated this annual effort and achievement by the Finance team by having a “Happy” celebration. In so doing, they thought that the most meaningful (and memorable) way to do that would be to make some other people happy; people in need, specifically. That’s where TELUS made the connection of socks for the homeless.

To encourage their employees to contribute to the campaign, each city had a captain to help increase awareness. Thanks to their hard work, TELUS employees were able to raise a total of 10,000 pairs of socks!

  • Edmonton Salvation Army – 1,800 pairs
  • Vancouver Salvation Army Harbour Light – 2,100 pairs
  • Calgary Salvation Army – 900 pairs
  • Montreal Salvation Army – 1,000 pairs
  • Ottawa Salvation Army – 700 pairs
  • Rimouski Salvation Army – 900 pairs
  • Toronto Salvation Army – 2,600 pairs

The Salvation Army would like to thank TELUS and their employees – you’ve made a difference to thousands of people in need! Thank you for helping us Give Hope Today.
