Manitoba Pork helps put breakfast on the table at The Salvation Army Centre of Hope

An SUV and trailer made its way down the back lane behind The Salvation Army Centre of Hope in Winnipeg, MB on May 22nd.  Both vehicles were branded with the Manitoba Pork Logo and carrying a generous donation.

“Every year, we make a commitment to do a one-tonne pork sausage donation to an organization and this year we have chosen The Salvation Army, simply because they are doing these great things,” says Susan Riese of Manitoba Pork.

The trailer was loaded with the first 100 cases of locally produced 100% pure pork sausage.  This generous delivery was one of two.  In total, 203 cases will be delivered, adding up to the promised one tonne.  The sausage will be added to the meals provided by the Centre of Hope, which feeds 300 people a day.

“This goes a long way to helping us meet those needs. Obviously, our budgets are tight. We don’t always have all the resources to do everything we need,” says Major Rob Kerr, Divisional Secretary, Public Relations with The Salvation Army. “So, when people donate in this way, it allows us to use resources in other ways, expand/extend the services that we do give in the community and helps us to continue serving in a very helpful way.”

Once the Centre of Hope makes their way through the sausage, Manitoba Pork is gladly waiting for the call to load up the trailer and return.

“When you’re in a position to work for a farm organization that produces food for Manitobans, Canadians and people all over the world, you want to also give back and make sure that you are taking of the folks at home that maybe aren’t as fortunate as yourself,” Riese says.
