Annual Fundraiser Helps Raise Donations to Put an End to Poverty

Toronto, ON (December 16, 2014) – With a fundraising goal of $21 million, The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign has received just over $10 million in donations so far this holiday season. The charitable fundraiser runs through Christmas Eve and helps local Salvation Army units provide vulnerable people with basic necessities such as food, clothing, shelter and other provisions. Donations also enable The Salvation Army to offer life-changing programs, such as substance abuse recovery, job and skills training, and education classes, to help people find a way out of poverty. Every contribution made remains in the community in which it was given, in order to assist local people in need.

“The Salvation Army is truly grateful for the generous gifts of time and donations that we have received from people this year,” said Major Les Marshall, Territorial Secretary for Public Relations and Development. “We have just over a week to go with our Christmas Kettle Campaign, and every dollar donated will help The Salvation Army continue its vital work during Christmas and throughout the year.”

The annual Christmas Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s largest fundraising drive of the year. The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettles are hosted at more than 2,000 locations across Canada thanks to the support of numerous corporate partners, including many individual retailers. Throughout the campaign, thousands of kettle workers volunteer their time to staff the Christmas Kettles.

Beyond donating to The Salvation Army’s physical Christmas Kettles, donations to the 2014 Christmas Campaign can be made at www.FilltheKettle.com, www.SalvationArmy.ca, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) or via mail to The Salvation Army, 2 Overlea Blvd, Toronto, ON M4H 1P4.
