Seventy London youth enjoyed fun, fellowship and friendship at Salvation Army camps this summer.

Kids from London spent a week at either Jackson’s Point Camp Blaze on Lake Simcoe or at Newport Adventure Camp near Huntsville. The Salvation Army helps in subsidizing the cost of Adventure Camp for families in need.

“The Salvation Army believes that each child should have the chance to experience adventure in an outdoor camp environment. Overnight Adventure Camp allows kids to learn about nature, teamwork, perseverance, and about themselves in a unique and memorable way,” says Rebecca Thiessen, Integrated Missions Manager at The Salvation Army London Community and Family Services

Camper stories show the excitement and memories created by attending summer camp, a memory that often lives with us through adulthood, reflecting the innocence and passion of youth.

“My daughter had the time of her life! She made many friends and hasn’t stopped talking about her week at camp. She is counting the days down for next years summer camp. What a great childhood memory to have!” said one mother.

“My four kids loved the food at camp. They also enjoyed activities like archery and water activities like swimming and canoeing and games during the stay. They’re so happy with the camp and want to go next year too!” said another parent.

Behind the smiles on many parents’ faces is a feeling of relief in knowing that their kids will have the summer camp experience, one they would otherwise not be able to afford.

“It’s our pleasure to send their kids to camp for a heavily subsidized and achievable cost. When campers return to their families after camp week, it’s with exclamations of excitement, stories and requests to go back next year,” Rebecca says.
