A generous donation of 40 turkeys from Gordon Food Service to The Salvation Army Ottawa Booth Centre provided a Thanksgiving dinner to the local community on the holiday long weekend.

This past Friday, the Thanksgiving meal fed 200 people area residents who enjoyed turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, juice and an apple in a takeout container. And later that weekend, on Sunday, another dinner was served to Ottawa Booth Centre clients.

Ten of the turkeys were given to the Ottawa Booth Centre Food Bank to hand out to families looking to cook their own Thanksgiving dinner at home.

“We’re thankful for the support of our service partner Gordon Food Service to provide a turkey dinner to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families in Ottawa. We are grateful for this great partnership with Gordon Food Service who strongly believes in giving back to their community,” said Marc Provost, Executive Director of Ottawa Booth Centre. “This meal is much appreciated by those who would otherwise not be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner,”

The Salvation Army in Ontario is an innovative partner mobilized to share hope wherever there is hardship and our collaboration with Gordon Food Services makes this commitment easier.

“Gordon Food Service continues to enjoy supporting the Salvation Army through its long standing relationship with the Salvation Army’s disaster relief program.  As there are ongoing challenges within communities throughout Canada, Gordon Food Service is committed to assisting the Salvation Army in ensuring those affected by disaster or through ongoing personal challenges receive a helping hand and a warm meal,” said Mark Lazaruk, Regional Sales Manager with Gordon Food Service.
