Local Property Owner Donates $75,000 to Salvation Army in Smiths Falls

The Salvation Army in Smiths Falls has a received a generous donation of $75,000 this morning from CP Rentals Property Management.  Volundur (Wally) Thorbjornsson who owns the new Salvation Army Thrift Store property says he made the donation after learning about the great work The Salvation Army does in the community.

“When The Salvation Army Majors Laurie and Gerald Reilly approached me about renting the location at 203 Brockville Street I was fascinated to learn how extensive the work of The Salvation Army is and how many people they reach in the community through their lunch and food programs,” he said. “A lot of people are hurting now more than ever, and I wanted to support this organization.”

After a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the new Thrift Store, Mr. Thorbjornsson made the check presentation to The Salvation Army.

“This came as a big surprise. I was actually speechless,” said Major Laurie. “We are so thankful for this donation. It will go a long way to supporting those in need in this region including Smiths Falls, Perth and Carleton Place.”

“I studied the history of The Salvation Army and it was a pleasant surprise to learn that this organization seems to be one of the most effective at making sure donations get out to the people that need it,” said Thorbjornsson.”

Thorbjornsson and his team also helped The Salvation Army get the new Thrift Store ready for opening. They volunteered their time helping to pack up auction items and assemble wracks.

“I really like how The Salvation Army has stayed true to their course and their mission,” he said. “My family and I are just honoured to help those that help others in the community.”
