The Salvation Army Kingston Citadel is Bringing Church Online

The Salvation Army Kingston Citadel is finding new ways to connect with their church members to both check on their well-being and engage them in activities.
Although church services have been cancelled, Officer Major Chad Ingram has been recording sermons and posting them on social media. Bible studies for adults are being done using Zoom video conferencing.
The Salvation Army officers and worship team are also checking on the well-being of their church members.
“We have a team of 20 volunteers calling our congregation members to see if they are ok and if they need anything,” said Captain Kathleen Ingram. “Our junior band masters are also sending out music pieces to band members so they can continue to learn and practice at home.”
Children and Youth Ministries Coordinator Amanda Patterson is helping to keep the children in the congregation busy with several activities.
“We are doing Bible studies using video conferencing that include interactive ministry games within secure chat rooms,” said Amanda. “We also have them engaged in a youth worship challenge where they record themselves engaging with worship music through singing or playing instruments with their family.”
In advance of holy week, Amanda also sent the kids drawings of palm leaves for them to colour and paste in their windows.
Twice a week, youth groups from 5 different churches including The Salvation Army in Kingston are meeting online to play games, chat and share a devotional message.
“It’s really about keeping them connected so they don’t feel isolated,” said Amanda. “Especially since schools are closed and they don’t have the same social circle around them they normally do through school and sports.”
Using video conferencing and phone calls, The Salvation Army Kingston Citadel can stay connected with their congregation and community. Although a distance apart, together we can continue to support one another.
