A long-standing partnership with The Salvation Army and the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) marked another chapter recently as The Salvation Army was hosted by the club for its 2010 Annual Luncheon.

A good crowd gathered at the Caboto Club to share a meal together while enjoying the ever-popular music of the “Jubilee Brass”, the Divisional Seniors Band. Also included in the program was the Kettle Kickoff for the Christmas season with Rotary President Rick Caron making the first contribution to the campaign.

Lt. Colonel Lee Graves, Divisional Commander of the Ontario Great Lakes Division, thrilled the guests with his inspirational address “The Army’s Place in Community”. The Colonel offered thanks and recognition to various individuals present at the luncheon who have supported The Army’s ministry in the city of Windsor through various volunteer opportunities, including A-Channel’s Evening News Anchor Jim Crichton who loves to man the Christmas Kettles each year.

Rotary President Rick Caron made a surprise presentation at the end of the luncheon by giving a $5,000 donation to The Army for the operation of its Soup Kitchen. Many of the Rotarians in this particular club volunteer at the Soup Kitchen each winter helping to bring some warmth and cheer to the vulnerable of the community.
