Perron Goodyear, Divisional Emergency Disaster Services Director for the Ontario Great Lakes Division, delivered a Community Response Unit (CRU) to the New Hope Community Church in Orangeville, where it will now be based.

“The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division is pleased to expand its Community Response fleet to include Orangeville and region”, says Major Alf Richardson, Divisional Commander. “We are grateful to the generous benefactor who provided the vehicle and are certain it will provide excellent ministry for many years! Emergency Service and Disaster support are an integral part of our mandate as we continue to work to “Give Hope Today”.

The CRU is a recently donated Recreational Vehicle which will have some minor modifications made and be used to provide Emergency Services for all of Dufferin County. County officials, as well as first responders, are anxious to work with The Salvation Army and to utilize this new addition.

“The Salvation Army has been involved in Emergency Disaster Services for over 100 years and our goal is always to be more prepared for the unexpected”, says Perron Goodyear. “I believe having this resource deployed to Dufferin County, moves us another step forward in being prepared for such emergencies.”

In early November New Hope CC hosted a training session, Introduction to The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (a part of the National Disaster Training Program), which was well attended by church members as well as the Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the County.

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services, Ontario Great Lakes Division, provides support, training and resources to respond with compassion, as exemplified by Jesus Christ, to those affected by emergencies and disasters.
