Prudence Muise, the longest serving member in Yarmouth, and Junior Soldier Amelia Rowe, cut a commemorative cake during The Salvation Army’s 125th Anniversary celebrations in Yarmouth. Also pictured, from left to right, Major Peter Rowe, Yarmouth Corps Officer, Majors Dr. Bruce Power (Rtd) and Major Judy Power (Rtd), former Corps Officers in Yarmouth, Major Wanda Vincent, Divisional Youth Secretary, Major Morris Vincent, Area Commander, and Major Janice Rowe, Corps Officer Yarmouth. The cake was made and decorated by Yarmouth member Crystle George.
The event featured a visit from The Salvation Army’s Canadian Staff Band under the leadership of Major Kevin Metcalf and Bandmaster John Lam. Formed in 1969, the band is comprised of Salvation Army officers and staff from the Toronto area. The band regularly tours throughout Canada and internationally, living up to its reputation as one of the finest examples of brass band playing in the country. “They held an awesome concert,” Major Janice Rowe, Corps Officer in Yarmouth, said. “It was an amazing evening, including some fun and interaction with the congregation.”
The weekend also featured a number of guests. Among them were Major Dr. Bruce Power (retired) and Major Judy Power (retired), who were stationed in Yarmouth 35 years ago. Their daughter Heather, born in Yarmouth while the pair was posted there, accompanied them. Major Morris Vincent, Area Commander, and Major Wanda Vincent, Divisional Youth Secretary, were also in attendance.
Enjoy a few photos from this historic weekend.
