As we approach the end of 2022, we know people are struggling. A recent national survey by The Salvation Army revealed that 52 per cent of Canadians have recently faced food security challenges. This sobering statistic correspond with what The Salvation Army’s staff are witnessing at food banks and shelters across the country.

“We came here for a better life for our children,” says Cynthia. “We were thankful to discover our local Salvation Army, where we received food hampers while my husband looked for work.”

“We’re seeing more and more families asking for our assistance for the first time.”

In the past year, The Salvation Army has seen a 30 per cent increase in families with children who need our help. “We’re seeing more and more families asking for our assistance for the first time,” says Lt-Colonel John Murray, territorial secretary for communications. “With the threat of a recession, we anticipate this number will continue to grow. Now more than ever before, we are here for people who need us.”

When you donate to The Salvation Army, you’re helping to give new hope to vulnerable people in your community.  You can also increase your tax credits at the same time. In fact, according to CanadaHelps.org, you can receive as much as 50 per cent of the amount you donated back at tax time.

“The Salvation Army makes it easy to give a gift of new hope.”

December is a month of giving and receiving, a time to help our friends and neighbours experience the joy of Christmas and find a new hope for 2023.  Will you consider sharing the spirit of the season by making a tax-deductible gift?

The Salvation Army makes it easy to give a gift of new hope.
