Your Support Means Clean Water for Life

Thanks to generous supporters like you, rural families in Sri Lanka enjoy clean water and healthier lives. The Polonnaruwa district of Sri Lanka benefitted from a Safe Water and Livelihood Development (SWALD) project started by The Salvation Army. Says Sunial, a local farmer, “Our village didn’t have any source of drinking water. Clean water changed our lives forever. We are grateful to The Salvation Army.”
Thousands of men, women, and children in the Polonnaruwa district of Sri Lanka suffered serious health risks due to a lack of clean water in the region, which was caused by severe water pollution, contaminated drinking water, dangerous disposal of untreated sewage, and a lack of adequate health and sanitation facilities.
Thanks to your support, the SWALD project provided 18 boreholes, resulting in clean water forover 6,800 families. The project also offered agriculture training and livelihood support for morethan 3,000 families, bringing them sustainable income for years to come.
The SWALD project in Polonnaruwa was so successful, your generosity is now helping to provide safe water, improved livelihoods, and agriculture development to rural farmers and families in six remote areas of Sri Lanka.
“It was the donations from friends in Canada that made it possible for these projects,” says Lt. Colonel Debra Mockabee, assistant program secretary. “We are so grateful…they are really saving lives!”
