Saving the Planet and the Community with The Salvation Army

This Earth Day, The Salvation Army and its thrift stores encourage donors to make a meaningful impact environmentally and socially by donating gently-used items.
When you clear out your closets or garages and donate the things you no longer use to a Salvation Army thrift store, you are doing more than just tidying up and clearing space. You are reducing waste, promoting reusing and supporting the many programs The Salvation Army offers to people in need across the country.
“Your unwanted clothing and household items have the potential to become someone else’s treasure,” says Ted Troughton, managing director at The Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Each year, thanks to donors and shoppers, The Salvation Army is able to divert millions of pounds of clothing and household items from landfills. These donations help extend the life of things that might otherwise end up as waste.
“By donating to The Salvation Army Thrift Store, you actively participate in extending the lifecycle of these goods, reducing waste and supporting a circular economy,” Troughton adds.
Aside from the environmental benefits, the proceeds from thrift stores directly help fund Salvation Army programs such as food banks, shelters, addiction and outreach services. Each donation or purchase helps provide essential support.
By donating or shopping second-hand at a thrift store, you are making the planet greener while also giving hope to the lives of many. Guests can also save money while discovering unique items that they may not be able to find anywhere else.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store accepts gently-used clothing, footwear, accessories, books, toys and household items. Donors are encouraged to ensure items are clean and in good condition.
