Every year in Canada The Salvation Army helps 1.8 million people. The following are links to media reports about The Salvation Army at work between April 14-17, 2014.

Fort St. John, B.C.

The Salvation Army officially opened its new Northern Centre for Hope shelter. The building houses up to 64 homeless and less fortunate people. Currently there are 40 people living there.

“As the area expands and grows, as Fort St. John is,” says Captain Deb VanderHeyden of The Salvation Army, “so increases the need, particularly for the high-barrier area.” Read more.

Ottawa, Ont.

A fire that began in the kitchen area of a bachelor apartment prevented some residents of the Ottawa Community Housing building from returning home. The Salvation Army was on the scene helping displaced tenants. Read more.

Guelph, Ont.

The Salvation Army arranged racks of dresses in preparation for young shoppers to come and purchase inexpensive prom and graduation dresses. In total, 76 girls bought dresses at this year’s sale. Read more.
