On October 22, a gunman opened fire in Ottawa at the National War Memorial and Parliament, killing one soldier. With military and law enforcement personnel mobilized to secure the area, The Salvation Army’s well-established Emergency and Disaster Services (EDS) provided fast, efficient service to first responders.

Requested at the police Incident Command Post, The Salvation Army’s EDS canteen supplied emergency personnel with food service support.  Approximately 500 meals and also water, coffee, cold drinks and snacks were served to Ottawa Police Services, RCMP, OPP, Canadian Forces, Ottawa Paramedics and various supporting agencies.

Throughout the day and into the evening Salvation Army personnel remained on the scene to assist with response efforts.
