Salvation Army Assists Ontario Forest Fire Evacuees
About 115 forest fires are burning in northwestern Ontario and the fires are showing no signs of stopping. To date, about 1,500 people have been flown to communities hundreds of kilometres to the south.
Salvation Army emergency disaster personnel:
• are providing food services to evacuees in Arthur, Ontario.
• are preparing to provide food service and activities for youth to approximately 200 evacuees expected to arrive in Orangeville on Sunday.
• are providing bag lunches for evacuees in Thunder Bay while they wait to board planes/buses, heading to their host community.
In addition The Salvation Army Thrift Store in New Liskeard sent boxes of toys to Matchewan for the 60 children who are there.
