Egobure Nnoroh is reaching her education goals because of the support of The Salvation Army Pathway of Hope program at the Agincourt Community Church.

She first heard about the program from a poster she saw during a Salvation Army church service.

“I didn’t know anything about it, but it sounded so good,” she said. “At the time I was studying math, English, chemistry and biology, but it was so overwhelming because I also had four children going to school. I really needed someone to talk to, someone to tell me to keep going.”

The Pathway of Hope program focuses on helping people out of poverty by examining its root cause. The program works one-on-one with participants and offers targeted services and encouragement to people as they work towards both short and long-term goals.

“Pathway of Hope is a program that comes alongside people that use our food bank and other resources and helps them to break that cycle of poverty that they find themselves potentially stuck in,” said Nathan Amell, Pathway of Hope caseworker with The Salvation Army Agincourt Community Church.

“The first thing Nathan did was ask me ‘What are your goals? What do you want to achieve?’  I told him I wanted to go back to school,”  said Egobure.

“I put my goals out there and he had me come up with objectives. He walked me through that and didn’t relent. He called me three times a week for six months to ask if I was achieving my objectives and I came out victorious!  I got into college, and I was so happy,” she smiled. “It was a time in my life where I just needed that kind of support, and I got it.”

“Some people just need help when they are  trying to map out their future. We see true transformative hope when a team comes together and surrounds an individual or family with prayer, with their time and love,” said Nathan.

“When I say to people at The Pathway of Hope that I am fine. They say, ‘In what ways are you fine?’ They go that extra mile just to make me feel human and feel loved and they really helped me achieve my hearts desire,” said Egobure.
