Description
The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
- Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
- Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre.
- Assist with sorting toy donations.
- Assist with registration for Christmas programs
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
- May assist in the Kettle campaign where needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary position 30 hours per week.
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, Monday through Saturday. Most hours of work will be conducted between Monday through Friday, during the morning and afternoon.
- Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
- Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs. (18.14 kgs) in a safe manner.
- Local travel may be associated with this position.
Normal Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 9:30am to 3:30pm and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed High School or equivalent
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
- Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
