Description
The Facilities Supervisor assist the Facilities Manager in providing oversight and support of janitors and the overall day to day cleanliness and maintenance of all The Salvation Army facilities under the H.H.B. Housing and Support Services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Responsibilities
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor oversees, develop and maintains the daily, weekly, and monthly checklists for housekeeping and maintenance staff.
- In the absences of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will maintain maintenance and housekeeping logs, coordinates scheduled janitorial procedures; ensures janitorial guidelines are in compliance with warranties and contracts.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will supervise and schedule janitorial staff for the completion of building cleaning and maintenance requirements.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will participate in recruitment, orientation, training, performance review and discipline of staff in the consultation with the director of Business and Operations and HR.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will ensure mandatory training and e-learnings are completed within the set time frame and constantly reviews the skills and competencies of staff to adequately meet the requirements of the job.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will monitor employee sick time and workers compensation utilizations to ensure effective use of resources.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will perform and approve staff scheduling and timecards ensuring that appropriate and adequate coverage is always maintained.
In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will provide skill development and personal coaching to janitorial staff - In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will coordinate, prepare and facilitates staff meetings.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will assist with the development, updating and evaluation of agency policy and procedures and ensures staff compliance with policy and procedures.
Health and Safety
- Collaborating with the support services coordinator to ensure daily vehicle inspection/safety logs and mileage logbooks are being properly kept.
- Collaborating with the support services coordinator to review relevant vehicle policies and procedures with drivers.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will train drivers in the daily use of vehicle inspection/safety logs and mileage logbooks.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will schedule servicing and regular maintenance of equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Ensures that the upkeep and maintenance of Security and Fire Systems are maintained as necessary.
- Collaborating with the Facilities Manager to handle on-call for dealing with after-hour & emergency situations.
- Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations.
- Participate in all Health and Safety meetings, related accidents and injury investigations.
- Ensure that staff are ware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary.
Maintenance of Inventory & Supplies
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will receive and fills weekly supply orders from janitorial departments.
- In the absence of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will ensure housekeeping, and maintenance supplies are received, stored, and redistributed to the appropriate departments.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies from various sources.
- Ass assigned by Director of Business and Operations, assists in researching, costing, recommending, or purchasing furnishings & equipment.
- Assists Director of Business and Operations or designate in overall safety in all facilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary full time position based on 40 hours per week Thursday to Monday ending March 31, 2025
- Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required.
- Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
- Travel required between the individual units (4 shelters/buildings).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a post-secondary college certificate program in a discipline related to facility operation and building maintenance or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience in building maintenance work.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification or will to obtain would be an asset.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience in general repairs (i.e. electrical & plumbing), building systems, fire safety, water treatment and electrical systems, including experience in a residential setting.
- Experience in supervision, leadership, coaching, and motivating staff.

- Proficient computer skills in using all aspects of Microsoft Office
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, own vehicle and insurance; and current driver abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
