Description
The Christmas Toy Shop Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the set-up, take-down and organization of toy distribution program.
- Assist with the scheduling and organization of volunteers.
- Receive and process donations of toys for distribution and provide assistance with packing and sorting toy donations.
- Assist with recording statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
- Receive and process telephone calls from clients requiring assistance.
- Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary position based on 26 hours per week.
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
- Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
- Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (10 kg).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed High School or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Honest, courteous, and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
