Residential Support Worker
Description
The RSW provides a safe and secure environment for our guests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Crisis intervention among community, shelter, EWR, and OP guests, liaise with emergency personnel arriving at the Gateway
- Engage with and provide support to community meal guests
- Be a welcoming presence to volunteers, guests, participants, donors
- Act as after-hours reception for both phone and front door, by means of portable phone
- Provide building security while engaging with participants, community & shelter guests
- Hosts / supervises scheduled amenities room activities for residents
- May receive general donations, handles public complaints, acts as primary community liaison, assists outside users or groups renting or offering programs at our facility
- Accurately records day-to-day happenings; maintains logbooks and completes incident reports
- In partnership with shelter staff, assisting shelter guests in everyday situations
- In partnerships with OP advisors; provide support to current and new OP, ie. room checks, tours for new participants, POD visits, etc.
HOURS:
- Permanent, part-time, RRSP’s after 3 months
- Hours: Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 6:00 am – 10:00 am
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Calm demeanor with the ability to bring down the intensity of crisis situations
- Builds rapport easily and quickly with everyone when possible
- Relationship focused, with a proven record of displaying empathy and compassion
- Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
- Team oriented and able to take initiative
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Criminal Record Check
- CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset
