Weekend Frontline Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of operations.

Program delivery is executed in accordance with social services best practices, Salvation Army Policies and Procedures, and Hostel Standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compliance with Shelter Standards/Program Development:

  • Assist Director with accreditation, program reviews, and other external / internal reviews to ensure compliance with shelter standards and report any issues which arise
  • Adhere to and enforce all legislation, policies and procedures affecting the workplace
  • Assist with strategic planning and actively participate in program planning, development and implementation in the areas of emergency and transitional program streams
  • Invite, encourage and develop staff participation in program development
  • Provide Director with reports as required
  • Assist with the review of policy, procedures, and resident guidelines on a regular basis to ensure that they are relevant and compliant

Communications:

  • Participate in management and staff meetings
  • Assist with residents’ meetings as per policy
  • Coach direct reports on a monthly basis and bring forward to Human Relations and Director any training needs
  • Maintain open, effective and timely communication with all stakeholders
  • Complete and email shift reports to the Director as required

Community Relations:

  • Addresses any neighbour complaints and inform Director and appropriate agencies as required
  • Attend community neighbor group meetings as required
  • Represent the Salvation Army and Shelter in a professional manner at all times

Supervise Front line staff:

  • Ensure job descriptions and policies related to front line are completed
  • Respond and bring forward to management team any front line concerns
  • Supervisors will resolve any issues on their shift and provide support as required to other supervisors
  • Investigate and resolve resident or staff complaint or refer to Director of Human Relations as required
  • Supervise frontline, caseworkers, volunteers, students and housekeepers as required
  • On call rotation between the three shelters

Administrative:

  • Shift Supervisor is responsible for scheduling all front line staff and finding replacements when required for all shifts.  Coordinate all vacation time
  • Balance bus tickets and petty cash monthly.  Responsible for the distribution
  • Day Shift Supervisor is responsible for maintaining office supplies and residential supplies
  • Receive all provisional supplies and put away
  • Ensure that all HIFIS and other statistical data is completed and audited as required
  • Day Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that Billings, including bus tickets and taxis are accurately completed and submitted within established time line
  • Prepare quarterly overflow reports for Shelter submission to the Region of Peel
  • Serve snack to clients
  • Order shelter meals and manage restriction and incident reports

Human Relations:

  • Participate in the hiring, orientation, training, support, evaluation, promotion, discipline and termination in consultation with the Director of Human Relations and Director
  • Make recommendations for staffing levels, succession planning and other suggestions that will foster a positive working environment
  • Complete all administrative HR paperwork as required
  • Conduct minimum of one monthly supervision
  • Maintain staff supervision file and keep all information in a confidential location
  • Address performance issues in a timely manner, assess the proper course of action and document all items relating to the issue
  • Collect, verify all time sheets for payroll entry

Labour Relations:

  • Participate in the internal meeting with the Union Representative as required
  • Attend labour relations meetings as required
  • Possess a sound understanding and adherence to the Collective Agreement in a spirit of positive labour relations

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a casual relief position based on no standard weekly hours of work
  • This position will cover holidays that fall on Mondays/sick or vacation days
  • Work is performed in an shelter setting, subject to high client levels of stress and crisis intervention will be required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or equivalent
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Previous supervisory experience

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • A team player
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
