Description

The Food Service Program Helper will complete varied tasks in the kitchen and warehouse ensuring compliance with health and food safety procedures for the food services department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Food Services

  • Assist in the preparation of a nutritious menu and serve food for Supper Meal programs in accordance with applicable food, health, and safety regulations.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to; food prep, cooking, dish washing, serving meals to our clients and clean-up after dinner service.
  • Always maintain a high level of cleanliness within the kitchen and storage areas; take out recycling and garbage as needed.

Health and Safety

  • Adherence to all health and safety standards.
  • Assist with ensuring that the kitchen and areas are maintained regarding organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Report any Health & Safety infractions, issues or concerns to management and worker representative.
  • Help to keep fire exits clear and assist in the “Tidy Maintenance” of the building.
  • Know the Fire Evacuation plan, locations of Fire extinguishers and first aid stations.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other position related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position is considered casual/relief with no guaranteed hours.
  • Wear proper dress attire and PPE as required.
  • This job requires the ability to lift/move 30 lbs. and reach, bend, stand, sit, and use a computer.
  • Working environment is typically in the kitchen & office in generally agreeable conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed Secondary School.
  • Safe Food Handling Certification or willing to obtain.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Previous experience working in an institutional kitchen would be an asset.
  • Previous customer service experience.

  • Ability to work under pressure of time constraints.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
