KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

We offer Evening, Night, and Weekend premiums; stable schedules that allow time for family responsibilities with every second weekend off; in lieu of benefit payments and employer pension contributions for all RPNs, including casuals. RPNs with proof of Recent Related Experience can also be placed at a higher step on the wage grid (subject to Article language). ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is accountable to the Director of Care to provide professional nursing care to residents and supervise care given by Personal Support Workers (PSW).  Primary functions include assessment and planning of resident care needs; delivery of skilled procedures according to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice; medication administration; and documentation.

The Registered Practical Nurse is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values and employee guiding principles, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Experience in rehabilitation or long-term care nursing
  • Proficiency in interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, internet use and computerized documentation.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Deal tactfully and courteously with residents, resident’s families, visitors and staff in a positive manner
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary communication in complex care issues to foster positive resident outcomes
  • Establish and sustain care in a manner that is resident centred and fosters evidence based best practice
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
