Janitor
Description
The janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and/or grounds in compliance with applicable standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sweeping, wet mopping and vacuuming
- Cleaning washrooms; replenishing hand towels, toilet tissue, and hand soap
- Cleaning staff/volunteer break room
- Collecting and disposing of garbage and recycling and replacing bags; cleaning garbage bins
- Dusting furnishings/equipment in offices, waiting and change rooms, front counter, baseboard heaters and window ledges
- Cleaning and sanitizing chairs in C&FS waiting room and office, and thrift store change room, daily
- Cleaning windows and door glass
- Cleaning baseboards
- Changing light bulbs as needed
- Keeping the janitorial area clean and tidy at all times; thoroughly cleaning mops, brooms and vacuum cleaner for freshness and optimal performance
- Maintaining adequate cleaning and hygiene supplies by reporting items that need be reordered to supervisor
- Reporting safety concerns and repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures) to supervisor
- Checking doors and windows to ensure building security
- Performing other duties as assigned
SALARY: $17.00 per hour
TERM: Part-time
HOURS: 30 hours bi-weekly to be worked after 4:00 p.m.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
- Have completed High School
- Have cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures
- Certified with WHMIS or willing to obtain
- Be highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in isolation
- Be able to lift and carry heavy objects as required
- Have physical effort/dexterity for mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, etc.
- Obtain Court and Police Criminal Record Checks and clearance through The Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry
- Be willing to sign The Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form
