Description

The incumbent will contribute and provide oversight to maintenance, cleanliness and operations of the facility and property in compliance with applicable standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  • To work in partnership and cooperation with Northridge Ministry Team, Staff, Community Ministry, volunteer leadership and Pastors (CO’s).
  • Develop, monitor and provide maintenance for facilities and program vehicles.
  • Monitor and implement the Emergency Plans for fire, evacuation, and pandemics.
  • Oversees services and preventative scheduling for the mechanical equipment, HVAC system, telephone system, IT, AV and live stream systems, video / security and alarm system, fire protection systems, Wi-Fi system – as required conducts minor troubleshooting.
  • Trouble shoot repair needs and determine the appropriate time to call in a professional service.
  • Ensure that the facilities comply to the Health & Safety standards, Public Health standards, the quality assurance standards, and the Salvation Army Accreditation, which includes reviewing all incident reports pertaining to property and Health and Safety issues – taking the appropriate steps to ensure proper protocol is exercised.
  • Ensure that all Fire Safety equipment is inspected and maintained in accordance with the Fire Code.
  • On call duties 24/7 for emergency building issues.
  • Responsible for managing the inventory of building and maintenance supplies; including but not limited to identifying, ordering, receiving and storage of required items.
  • Ensures repairs are managed and completed as required.
  • Ensure the safety and aesthetic of the building and property, anticipating current and future preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning, vacuuming, and polishing of floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage – facility looks orderly inside and out.
  • Responsible for completing regular inspections of the building and grounds to record and assign work to address any deficiencies.
  • Arranges with approvals for maintenance that is beyond job class. (e.g. exterior property contracts).
  • Keep maintenance logs.
  • Anticipate set up requirements for various functions.
  • Provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed.
  • Re-stock supplies and distributes received material as required.
  • Spot washes accessible walls and shampoos carpets as required.
  • To establish and participate in property sub-committee.
  • Acts as local liaison for emergency responses. Responds and address communications specific to ER.

Program

  • Set up for various programs and ministry needs
  • Seek opportunities to build and foster community relationships & partnerships.

Administration

  • Facilitate and liaison internal and external rentals of the facilities
  • Site management and liaison with lead contractors during Phase 2 build
  • Coordinate weekend Church gym set up for Sunday Worship
  • Maintain accurate written records, logs of activities and inventory
  • Maintain listing of contractors / contacts

Health and Safety

  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations.
  • Monitor and report regularly any concern regarding adherence to the acceptable health standards and that physical property is maintained, arranging for repairs as necessary.
  • Responsible to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
  • Responsible to report workplace hazards and dangers.
  • Responsible to work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment.
  • Responsible to report workplace injuries or illness.

Volunteers

  • Recruit and train volunteer supports

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling required, some weekend and evening work required.
  • Requires standing for long periods of time; the ability to lift/move up to 30 by themselves; bending; twisting; keyboarding and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Will be required to carry a cell
  • Some travel is a requirement of this position.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification when necessary; attire should be clean and comfortable.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2 years at a Community College or equivalent work experience
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Annual WHIMS certification - Familiarity with cleaning supplies and maintenance procedures
  • Certification in Standard First Aid / CPR
  • Obtain certification elevated work platforms, skid steer
  • Current holder of Health and Safety certification or ability to obtain would be an asset
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered. 

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a property/maintenance related field.
  • Custodial, general repairs, building systems, fire safety, and electrical systems experience
  • Knowledge of building systems and vehicle maintenance is required.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Represents Northridge Community Church as an attending member with an acceptance of its mission and values.
  • Willingness to be certified to work at heights for property maintenance – light bulbs, projectors, fans etc.
  • Confident, self-motivated, mission minded, able to work with other staff or independently.
  • Online Armatus Abuse Training
  • Ability to work cooperatively in team environment and carry out responsibility with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions.
  • Teachable spirit / provides and takes direction.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; and to deal with people in a pleasant, professional and responsible manner.
  • Ability to source contractual work as necessary – i.e.: snow removal
  • Able to operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending, twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work
  • Strong interpersonal skills / positive attitude
  • Good computer skills / ability to embrace growing technology needs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
