Description
The Dining/Clothing Room Attendant is responsible to monitor the clients and residents during meals; to sort, wash & dry, fold towels and donated clothing and distribute clothing to the clients and residents at the designated times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Responsibilities:
- Ensure clients and residents receive proper Customer Service
- Evaluate, verify, and stamp meal tickets with the appropriate date and which meal.
- Assure the meal line is orderly and all clients/residents have access to service in an efficient fashion.
- Open and lock door/s at the appropriate mealtimes to allow clients/residents in the Dining Room area
- Monitor the dining area for: disturbances; document incidents; everyone has access to seating and that individuals leave the area after the completion of their meal in an orderly fashion.
- Count and provide the meal tickets to the Kitchen staff after each meal.
- To sort, wash & dry and distribute donated clothing at the designated times to clients and residents.
- To sort, wash & dry and fold towels as per the scheduled times
- Tally and submit clothing room inventory to Assistant Director monthly.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.
- Flexibility is required and schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities.
- Working environment is in the shelter locations in generally agreeable conditions.
- The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and performing walk abouts.
- May interact with clients with erratic/ aggressive behaviors.
- May deal with angry and/or abusive people.
- May deal with verbal abuse.
- The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:
- Physical attack by others
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to bodily fluids
- Sharp objects
- The incumbent carries a radio while on duty.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Lived experience will be an asset.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
