Description

To assist in the operations of collecting and processing donations to the Vernon Salvation Army, practicing good stewardship of our donated resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Processes donated items: unloading, sorting, spacing and loading items
  • Creates and maintain donor/donation records and report statistics.
  • Replenishes inventory levels based on Supervisor’s directions
  • Operates forklift and commercial scale – training will be provided!
  • May collect and process goods for emergency and disaster services as assigned (i.e. supply clothing, household goods (may include food) to families as a result of a disaster – flood/fire)
  • Works with team members in building safety: including light cleaning, and reporting needed maintenance to supervisor; assists in general cleanup, snow removal, garbage and compost removal.
  • Will be responsible for receiving phone calls, receiving donations, handling public inquiries within Vernon Salvation Army’s policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

HOURS:

  • Casual – on call

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Will also consider relevant life experience
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada today to apply for this role.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent customer/donor service ethics including the ability to deal with the public in a friendly manner
  • A proven ability to work in a team setting as well as a willingness to take personal initiatives
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Universal precautions
  • Heavy lifting: able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • The ability to adapt to change and interruptions to a normal work routine, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Basic computer skills and some basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Forklift operation certification, but will provide training.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
