Description
The cook will assist the head cook in providing food services for all summer camping groups.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and present meals according to weekly menus and camp schedules.
- Ensure that late lunch is prepared during the day.
- Responsible for cleanliness of kitchen including ovens, mixers, sinks, freezers, and pantry.
- Ensure that all food preparation, handling, work areas, coolers, freezers and storage areas comply with established Health Department regulations.
- Participate in compiling food inventory at the conclusion of each camp.
- Maintain all kitchen equipment ensuring it is in good working order. Report all problems or deficiencies with the equipment or facilities to the custodian/maintenance person and/or camp director.
- Responsible for cleaning pots and pans with assistance of one kitchen support staff.
- Assist in putting food away following meals.
- Assist with unpacking food and supplies, if needed.
- Practice economy in the use of food.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based camp setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army.
- Ability to take direction and work as part of a TEAM; developing and maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the other team members ensuring a balanced and shared workload.
- Able to take responsibility for personal health and safety in accordance with the Health and Safety Act.
- Mindful of health regulations as established by the Department of Health.
- Practices good personal hygiene.
- Knowledge and experience in food preparation and food handling.
- General knowledge about hospitality and camping environment.
- Working knowledge of dining room and kitchen protocol.
- Good communication skills.
- High School education.
SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:
The successful applicant will hold/have:
- Valid Food Safety Certificate
- Standard First Aid
- WHIMIS
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):
- Current Criminal/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
- Armatus Online Training/Abuse Prevention Refresher Course
WORKING CONDITIONS: Contract position - 40 to 48 hours per week.
Contract Start Date: May 20th, 2024
Contract End Date: September 6th, 2024
