Position Purpose Summary:

This position will work with all the clients who access our services in the Community and Family Services department of the Swift Current Corps. They will work in all aspects of Community and Family Services, including the Food Bank and donation pickups.

This is a permanent part time position at 20 hours per week. Additional hours will be required during Christmas season and for shift coverage. Shifts will be scheduled between Monday to Friday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist our clients with their needs for assistance with the food bank.
  • To keep the food bank well stocked and clean for great client experience.
  • Assist in running programs in the Family Services, Summer Camps, Christmas Hampers.
  • Suggest ideas for developing of new programs when required.
  • Keep accurate confidential records of client assistance through Link2Feed.
  • Assist with collection of statistics.
  • Support external reporting requests as needed. (ex; Food Banks Canada).
  • Assist with the pickup of donations if driver is not available.
  • Be available for provide general assistance during public relations events.
  • Provide support to the daily organizing of the Food Bank.
  • Receive/decline Food Bank donations.
  • Ensure the handling/sorting of all food donations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Sort/stock food donations in a safe manner.
  • Weigh all food donations and ensure they are recorded appropriately.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the Food Bank area.
  • Ensure Occupational Health and Safety is followed.
  • Assist with monitoring of freezer temperatures.
  • Ensure all food is handled according to Saskatchewan Public Health Guidelines as indicated in Food handling guide.
  • Report any concerns to the Community Ministry Director
  • Receive all non-monetary donations.
  • Assist with monetary donations as necessary and directing funds to proper processing.
  • Be actively involved in food drives, fundraising efforts.
  • May assist with gift cards (Christmas, etc.) as needed.
  • Assist with Christmas kettles counting of the money.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Grade 12 or Equivalent
  • Drivers’ License

Experience:

  • At least of one year of experience.
  • Training will be provided.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Good computer knowledge.
  • Requires standing, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to work weekends/evenings during special events.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

  • Working environment is typically in the Swift Current Community Church/ Food Bank building and occasionally other locations in the community and surrounding area.
  • Working conditions are generally agreeable however may at times become stressful and require work with angry and/or abusive clients.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for special events is associated with this position.

 

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license and an acceptable drivers abstract. The successful candidate would have to provide proof upon being hired.
