Description

This a fulltime position that provides Christian-based spiritual care services to clients and staff of designated CS{C) programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Connection Relationship Building

Intentionally connects with clients, staff, and volunteers for the purpose of building relationships and providing spiritual care.

Spiritual & Faith Support

Provides spiritual & faith guidance for clients, staff, and volunteers as appropriate and when request ed.
• Provides connections to other spiritual & faith communities for clients as requested.
• Provides spiritual presence, and engages in spiritual & faith conversations, crisis support, spiritual assessments and care plans for clients and staff.
• Prepares and provides Christian rituals e.g. worship services, memorial and funeral services, Lent, Easter, Christmas.

Administrative
• Participates in the development of program planning.
• Participates in strategic planning.
• Prepares and submits reports as per required timelines, including monthly statistical reports, monthly program reports, and program evaluations and assessments.
• Participates in the Salvation Army Accreditation Process.
• Participates in Spiritual and Religious Care team meetings.
• Participates on committees and planning meetings as requested.
• May participate in multi-disciplinary case management as required.

Education
• Prepares and provides Spiritual Programs for clients and staff, i.e. services, bible studies, devotions, and support groups.
• May provide facilitation of educational programs of Community Services (Calgary) in which a spiritual presence or component is needed.

Collaboration:
• Participates with departments of Community Services (Calgary) with spiritual care provision, teaching, or other duties as assigned.
• May participate with the Salvation Army Emergency and Disaster Services providing specialized spiritual services and provision for individuals or communities in distress as approved by ED{Executive Director}.
• Provide Critical Incident Stress Management for departments of the Salvation Army Community Services Calgary, as required.
• May participate in Salvation Army initiatives that enhance its purposes, goals, and outcomes.
• May participate in planning and implementing Community Services Special Events in all locations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Certificate of Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care from Booth University College or other equivalent program approved by The Salvation Army.
• Theological education would be an asset.
• Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search
• Child Intervention Check if working with children or in an environment with children
• Peer and Group Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
• At least two years of prior related experience in providing emotional and spiritual support in relevant settings
• Frontline experience with clients in a social service environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

• Working with families and new immigrants.

• Trauma-Informed Care
• Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply Motivational Interviewing skills
• Communication: Ability to connect with a diverse population. Excellent communication skills (verbal/written); able to use MSOffice 365 (Excel, TEAMS, Word, Outlook, PPT) to prepare/present information.
• Proven ability to provide meaningful, informed spiritual and emotional care to individuals in distress and for the community.

• Crisis management: maintain calm and consistent manner in dealing with individuals in crisis; demonstrate excellence in non-violent intervention strategies; demonstrate thorough understanding of crisis intervention; ability to re-establish relationship with individuals post­ crisis.
• Exemplify highly ethical standards of conduct; knowledge, understanding, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Desire to support the mission of The Salvation Army's work in a compassionate and non­ judgmental manner.
