Honouring Lt-Colonel Mel Bond’s 62 Years of Exceptional Service
Lt-Colonel Mel Bond’s remarkable 62 years of ministry through Salvation Army public relations and development work stand as a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional service within The Salvation Army. He was ordained and commissioned as a Salvation Army officer on June 28, 1958, and four years later was appointed to Public Relations where he spent the remainder of his ministry until his retirement in December 1997.
Serving with distinction across both the Canada and Bermuda Territory, the United Kingdom Territory as well as International Headquarters in London, Lt-Colonel Bond has made a substantial and lasting impact through his pioneering work in public relations, information services and international development through partnership work with CIDA, then an agency of the Government of Canada. His efforts have significantly advanced the mission of The Salvation Army at home and abroad, demonstrating his commitment to the organization’s values and goals.
Throughout his inspirational ministry career as an officer and, in retirement, as a 26-year employee in the public relations and development department at territorial headquarters, Lt-Colonel Bond has exemplified the essence of a Christian gentleman. His leadership and vision have fostered growth and innovation within the Army and inspired countless individuals who have had the privilege of working alongside him. His ability to forge meaningful connections and his unwavering commitment to the community have solidified Lt-Colonel Bond’s reputation as a deeply loved and respected figure within the organization and outside the Army through our Advisory Boards, media, government, corporations and donors.

In addition to his professional achievements, Lt-Colonel Bond, alongside his devoted wife, Lt-Colonel Norma, continues to actively support ministry at Oshawa Temple.
