Centre of Hope Receives National Accreditation with Commendation

The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope in Halifax recently completed a National Internal Accreditation process, receiving commendation with an overall score of 90%.

The Centre of Hope offers empathy and compassion via its men’s shelter, the six-month Anchorage Recovery program for men struggling with substance abuse, a chapel, a dining hall, a half-way house, as well as a family services. The Centre’s family services programs include a food bank, cooking with a budget, income tax clinics, back-to-school back packs, and clothing along with other community support to help give hope to those impacted by poverty, homeless and addictions.

“We are pleased with the results of this rigorous accreditation process, which will further enrich our team and as a result, the services we provide our community,” says Executive Director for the Centre of Hope, Vaden Vincent. “This is a valuable process to ensure our facility is well managed while delivering effective programs and spiritual care o those in our community who need it most.”

The Accreditation Review Management System Program led by The Salvation Army’s Territorial Headquarters in Toronto, manages, schedules, and monitors the social services accreditation process. This internal process provides an assessment of social service ministry units using standards that reflect organizational policy, legislative requirements, and best practices. Processes and systems are reviewed in the areas of governance, employee relations management, facility management, spiritual and religious care, as well as program delivery.

In order to achieve accreditation status through this process, a score of 80% or above must be achieved in each of the areas reviewed. We are celebrating not only the Centre of Hope’s success with the accreditation process, but also their achievement of such a high score, which demonstrates their commitment to effectively operating the Centre for the benefit of the community.
