Paralympian and Sailing World Champion Paul TIngley will serve as keynote speaker for the sixth annual Hope in the City Leadership Breakfast, presented by Nova Scotia Power.

The Hope in the City Leadership Breakfast is an annual fundraiser, bringing together 400 business and community leaders in support of the programs and services of The Salvation Army. This event takes place Friday, May 26 at the Westin Nova Scotian, and will include networking, education and entertainment. Paul Tingley’s inspiring story of overcoming adversity speaks to The Salvation Army’s mission of bringing hope to people across all walks of life.

Sailing since he was 10 years old, Paul Tingley was born to be on the water.  After a skiing accident, at age 24, left him paralyzed from the waist down, Paul challenged himself to continue sailing. His work ethic, competitive spirit, and passion for the sport never wavered. A year later, Paul would return to water and begin racing competitively.

Paul’s sailing career has taken him around the world. In the 2010 World Championships, he achieved a gold medal finish competing against disabled and able-bodied athletes. His athleticism and skill was recognized on the Paralympic world stage when he received a bronze medal in Sydney (2000), and gold in Beijing (2004).

His most recent career highlights include achieving a bronze medal finish in the Rio Paralympics (2016), and placing 1st in the 2016 Miami World Cup.

Paul’s career is a testament to what we can do when we dedicate our heart, mind, and body to achieving our goals.

CTV Atlantic’s Steve Murphy returns for the sixth consecutive year as emcee. Tickets for the event are $50, or $500 for a table of 10. Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event.
