Abe Leventhal leaves a legacy
Though he is no longer with us, Abe Leventhal is continuing to make a difference in the community. As a long-time donor, Leventhal believed in the good work of The Salvation Army, and upon his passing, at age 90, bequeathed $200,000 to continue helping those in need.
Abe Leventhal is largely recognized as the man behind the restoration and renovation of The Waverly Inn. Behind the opulence of the Inn, Leventhal was a community-minded man intent on giving back and restoring dignity to the most vulnerable people in society.
Leventhal’s commitment to giving back goes back decades. Executor Alan Stern shares, “I had known Abe since I was eight years old, but he was 17 years my senior. He was the leader of a Cub pack when I first met him.”
Leventhal was very successful in business. From a scrap metal venture to The Waverly Inn, he always made a point of meeting and talking with his many customers. At The Waverly Inn, he took great pride in providing his customers with a filling and delicious breakfast every day. This desire to ensure his customers are taken care of extended into his philanthropy. “He spent a lot of time each year giving to local charities and people in need” says Stern.
The Salvation Army thanks Mr. Leventhal for his dedication and service to those in need. His generous donation will provide a number of services to the community, such as food banks, shelters, and, of course, breakfast programs.
