Sounds of cheerful laughter and excitement filled the air as children and parents waited for a tour of Fire Station 13 in Dartmouth. Typically Precious Moments runs from September until June, but Kelly Currie, Community Services Coordinator has planned a few outings for the summer months, including an upcoming trip to the beach and the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. Precious Moments is for parents and tots aged 0-5, but in the summer months the program is also open to older siblings who are on summer holidays from school.IMG_1167_editwebpost

Children ages 0 to 11 and their parents attended todays tour of Fire Station 13 on King Street in Dartmouth. From 10-11 a.m. they learned what being a firefighter is all about. They had the opportunity to see the inflatable fire safety rescue boat, fire trucks, thermal imaging camera, the fire pole and more!

When Captain Hardy asked if they enjoyed the tour the children responded with a resounding “YES!” Parents also enjoyed the tour and are enjoying the summer outings. Janice has been coming to the program for three years. She shares: “I like socializing and being around other adults who are experiencing similar challenges, it’s nice to have a break from just being around kids and to be around other parents.”

In September the Precious Moments program, which runs out of the Dartmouth Community Church on Main Street will be increasing its weekly meeting time. The program will run from 9:30-11 a.m. on Tuesdays. For more information, or to register for Precious Moments, please contact Kelly Currie at 902-892-8870.

A huge thank you to the firefighters at Station 13 for giving tots and parents a fantastic tour!
