Marigold Murals Receive a Spring Spruce up
The Community Response Unit (CRU) came out in the spring weather to participate in the Marigold Mural Painting Project in Saint John, N.B. The CRU offered refreshments to the 150 volunteers who spent the day painting the marigolds on the thoroughfare along Main Street. After 11 hours, the amateur painters had restored the marigolds to their former glory. This annual event has been happening eighteen years, and started as a beautification project by the City of Saint John.
“It’s nice to live in a city that is bright and colourful, and it was good to see citizens of all ages come out and make it happen,” says Barry Ogden, a volunteer and a teacher at Saint John High School. “Thank you to the Salvation Army for bringing their Emergency Vehicle and providing water and fruit punch throughout the day. It was a great day for our community.”
The CRU also participated in the Meet a Machine event, which happened at the Qplex in Quispamsis, N.B. Adults and children alike enjoyed taking a tour through the CRU’s mobile kitchen, and learning about what is required to serve 1500 meals a day. If you missed the event come check out the CRU June 4 – 5, at the Qplex, for the New Brunswick Fire Chief’s Conference.
