Inaugural Saint John Fire Department Gala to benefit The Salvation Army set for next month

A partnership that usually convenes at the sites of local disasters will have an opportunity to be recognized in better circumstances next month, when the Inaugural Saint John Fire Department Gala takes place.

The gala, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre, will raise funds for Salvation Army programs and services in the community, while also highlighting the hard work of first responders in the community.

Among other things, the evening will feature dinner, a silent auction, and a dance featuring Donnie and the Monarchs.

Local fire departments and The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services regularly interact on the scene of fires, floods and other community emergencies. The Salvation Army personnel are often some of the first on scene, and stay long after fires have been extinguished – providing those in need with food, clothing, shelter and spiritual care.

Fire chief Kevin Clifford told the Telegraph Journal (NB) that the presence of Salvation Army personnel brings great comfort to his team, knowing that any person in need will be offered care, compassion and the necessities of life including food and shelter.

Major Danny Pinksen, Corps Officer at Saint John Hope Community Church says it is an honour to work alongside the fire department.

“We are so grateful for this partnership. We have a rich history with the fire department and it truly is an honour to be selected as the beneficiary of this event,” Major Pinksen says. “All proceeds will go directly to our Community and Family Services programs here in Saint John, and will enable us to continue to give hope to those who need it the most.”
