On July 17th, members of the RCMP were on hand at The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters to present a cheque for $900.00 in support of Scotian Glen Camp. The money was raised in a refreshing change of pace for the RCMP. Fines, but not the kind you’re thinking of.

While training for The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo at Camp Aldershot, Constable Dianne Hartery began issuing fines to her troop for a number of small, but costly infractions. These infractions ranged from uniforms being out of place, miscues in training and even forgetting to shave in the morning.

“Even our Chief paid a couple himself,” laughed Constable Hartery.

The Chief in question is Chief Superintendent Jean-Michel Blais, whose work with the RCMP has given him the opportunity to serve on numerous Salvation Army Advisory Boards. Over the past ten years Chief Superintendent Blais has served on the Winnipeg and Ottawa boards and since 2010 has been a member of the Halifax board.

Scotian Glen Camp is located in scenic Thorburn, NS, and hosts over 600 campers each summer. All of the money raised by the RCMP will be used to send underprivileged children to camp that would otherwise not have the opportunity.
