They’re called Second Chance, and they’re three men from the Miramichi area that decided to use music to make a difference.

George Allain, Bill Hachey and Ross Wilson had already realized that in Miramichi – no longer the buzzing area of industry it once was – local churches are struggling with lower attendance and the effects of the economy, and they wanted to help. They quickly decided that their love of music made a CD a natural fit.

Entitled ‘Because He Lives’, Second Chance’s CD features 12 songs recorded at Allain’s home over a three-month period.

Rather than select one benefactor, the trio decided to help many churches on the mighty eastern New Brunswick river. Thus far they have distributed to four churches, including The Salvation Army. The churches sell the CD for a suggested price of $16, with the entire sum going to the church as a fundraiser. The men themselves plan to sell a few of their CDs as well to help recoup the cost of the project, but ultimately the goal is to provide maximum help to those who help others, even if that means the trio takes a small loss.

The Salvation Army would like to say thanks to the trio for their generous spirit. If you’re in the Miramichi area, be sure to swing by The Salvation Army Community Resource Centre (231 Pleasant Street) for some great music with a great heart.
