Santa’s annual pre-Christmas workout took place last week as the Santa Shuffle hit roads, sidewalks and trails around the Maritimes.

Bigger than ever, this year the Santa Shuffle took place in five different communities around the Maritimes. Halifax, Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John were back again, joined by Charlottetown which brought the race to Prince Edward Island for the first time.

In Halifax, over 550 runners descended on the Dartmouth waterfront for the race, beginning at Alderney Landing. The race raised over $37,000 for The Salvation Army. The team that raised the most money was the Spryfield Salvos. WestJet once again partnered with the Santa Shuffle in Halifax to offer one participant two tickets anywhere WestJet flies. The prize was won by Melissa Hartlen.

In Moncton, around 200 runners hit Centennial Park for the 10th annual event in the Maritime hub. The team that raised the most money in Moncton was the team from Lakeview Manor. This year marked the fifth consecutive year they raised the most money at the Moncton event, and their total of $3,040 represented over one third of all money raised in Moncton. In addition to receiving pledges, the team held a penny drive, sold homemade beets and pickles, 90 pies and other desserts, and much more.
