Ways to help out

Various opportunities exist, depending on your experience and competencies.

If you are 14 years old (must be accompanied by an adult), or if you are 16 or older, you can:

  • Prepare food hampers
  • Sort merchandise, clothing and toys

If you are 18 years old and over, you can:

  • Give support to people in crisis (painting/photography, reading, knitting, yoga classes…)
  • Cook and serve meals
  • Do repairs and general maintenance work
  • Help organize events
  • Do general office work

Places to help out

Based on the needs of The Salvation Army‘s various units, you can work within programs such as:

  • Thriftstores
  • Family Services warehouses
  • Montreal’s Booth Centre or Québec’s L’Hôtellerie (men’s residences)
  • Québec’s Maison Charlotte (women’s residence)
  • Mobile canteen (evenings)

Interested in cooking, teaching, sorting and storing, or organizing an activity? You can do it—and help Canada’s largest non-governmental direct provider of social services at the same time. We have over 1,000 volunteer positions year-round to help people and families in need.
