Golfers prepared for rain, but the sun came shining through in the afternoon. The event was filled with treats around the course, including smokies from Grimm\u2019s Fine Foods, mini donuts from Service Master, and butter chicken samosas and vegetable fritters from Guru Fine Indian Cuisine. The event wrapped up in the clubhouse with speeches from Major Al Hoeft, Major Rob Kerr, and Major Ben Lippers. Lunch was served as golfers were treated to steak and endless side dishes with desserts to sweeten their palettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tremendous success of the 2024 Supreme Group Salvation Army Golf Classic, and the significant impact it will have on our EDS team, is a testament to the unwavering dedication and support of our sponsors, donors, golfers, and volunteers. Your collective effort has truly made a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe addition of the mobile bunkhouse to our response fleet makes it possible for Salvation Army teams to be able to serve in places that have been evacuated or are remote,\u201d said Major Al Hoeft, Prairies and Northern Territories Divisional Secretary of Public Relations. \u201cIt will reduce travel time and enable our teams to respond more effectively to support those impacted by disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, the EDS team spent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/salvationdev.wpengine.com\/pranorth\/2023\/10\/how-emergency-disaster-services-responded-to-yellowknife-wildfires\/\">all summer responding to fires in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.<\/a>&nbsp;When it was all said and done, EDS served 25,539 meals, 18,013 snacks, and 21,029 drinks to first responders and evacuees. EDS staff worked 7,019 hours and handed out 2,333 household items and 2,560 pounds of clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These numbers are great, but one of the challenges from this response was the travel time to and from the feeding site. It took the team one hour each way, which took time away from being able to utilize the volunteers more efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new bunkhouse and tow truck will ensure our teams can respond quickly and start helping affected areas as soon as possible. Immediate access to clean, private quarters, bathrooms, and showers on a mission removes outside obstacles and distractions, allowing EDS to cut travel times and focus on effectively and efficiently serving those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this event a success. The Salvation Army is deeply grateful for your support. We look forward to your continued support and participation in our future events, as your involvement is crucial in making a lasting impact on those in our division.
